The following examples explain the usage:

iron sulfur oxidation

Finds documents containing one or more of these words.

matrix_isolation quinoid

Finds documents containing as many of these words and phrases as possible. A phrase is any string of adjacent words. To link words into a phrase use an underline. Searches will ignore capitalization. For example, matrix will find matches for matrix, Matrix, and MATRIX.

+matrix_isolation -quinoid

Matches may be required, or prohibited. Precede a required word or phrase with + and a prohibited one with -. This query finds documents containing matrix isolation, but not containing quinoid.

.ethylene

Finds documents containing ethylene at the beginning of a word (it excludes e.g. Methylene).
