Hydrocyclones have been widely used in the mineral, pharmaceutical, and chemical industries for separation and classification. Small hydrocyclones have a great potential to be applied to fine particle classification, in particular to collect sub-micrometer fractions.
The distributions of velocity, concentration, RMS velocities, and - especially - the average diameter of the particles were evaluated, demonstrating that the inner helical flow plays the major role in the solid/liquid two-phase separation.
