Instructions to Authors

1. The journal publishes independently reviewed original papers, short communications, reviews and reports as well as book reviews and announcements. Manuscripts should be submitted in English (in triplicate) and additionally on diskette and be addressed to the Managing Editor. The name or title and full address of the institute from which the manuscript originates should be stated below the name(s) of the author(s). The title page should also include the address to which all correspondence and proofs should be sent, telephone and fax numbers, along with an E-mail address if available. Authors are responsible for the content of their submissions.

2. Original papers should not exceed twelve typewritten pages (Times 12, double spaced), not including references, tables and figures; short original communications should not exceed a maximum of six typewritten pages.

3. Each paper should be preceded by a summary, a running title and three to five keywords.

4. Latin names of species and passages to be printed in italics for greater emphasis should be underlined with a wavy line. Please use only units and symbols of the SI system.

5. Tables may be used to shorten the text or to make it more comprehensible. They should be numbered consecutively, be given a short heading and appear within the context of the paper.

6. The number and size of illustrations should be kept to a minimum. They should be numbered consecutively and quoted on separate sheets. Line drawings, including graphs and diagrams, should be drawn in black ink. Half-tone illustrations should be submitted as black and white glossy prints. Figure captions should be typed in sequence on a separate sheet. The name(s) of the author(s) should appear on the reverse side of each sheet.

7. Colour illustrations will be reproduced at the author's request. For this the author will be charged a fee according to the current prices. For an estimate of costs please contact the Managing Editor.

8. References listed at the end of the paper should only concern such papers quoted in the text and be numbered in the order in which they are first mentioned. Please give surnames and initials of all authors, names of journals, abbreviated according to ”Chemical Abstracts – List of Periodicals”, titles, volume numbers, year, dates of publication, issue numbers or months and first and last page numbers. Books are to be cited with the full title, edition, volume number, page number, place of publication, publisher and year of publication.

9. Notes to the text should be presented as footnotes on the corresponding page.

10. A copy of Acta Biotechnologica or a high resolution PDF of the article is supplied free of charge to the first named or corresponding author. Additional reprints may be ordered upon payment. Minimum order is 50 copies.

11. Authors receive two galley proofs, for the correction of printer's error only; changes of content and extensive technical changes are no longer possible. The proofs are to be returned to the Managing Editor:

Assignment of Rights for Journal Contributions

With the acceptance of the manuscript for publication in Journal of Acta Biotechnologica, WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH acquires exclusively for three years from the date on which the article is published and thereafter for the full term of copyright, including any future extensions, on a non-exclusive basis all publishing rights including those of pre-publication, reprinting, translating, other forms of reproduction e.g. by photocopy, microform, or other means including machine-readable forms like CD-ROM, CD-I, DVD, diskettes, electronic storage and publishing via Local Area Network, Intranet and Internet, and other data networks and other forms of distribution e.g. by Document Delivery-Services of this article world-wide. This includes the right of WILEY-VCH Verlag Berlin GmbH to transfer to third parties the partial or full rights. Moreover, the provisions of laws of the Federal Republic of Germany apply.
