Short description The second of this two-volume work completes the general characterization of drug-metabolizing enzymes and their catalyzed reactions started in Volume One. Part 4 discusses conjugation reactions and the respective enzymes, while Part 5 deals with the pharmacological and toxicological consequences of drug and xenobiotic metabolism, substantiated by compelling examples. The final two parts analyze the inter- and intra-individual factors that affect the expression and activity of drug-metabolizing enzymes, beginning with genetic factors, including the differences between animal species and polymorphisms of human drug-metabolizing enzymes. Lastly, those influencing factors that are not inscribed in the genome and which may change during a lifetime are elucidated with a particular focus on drug-drug interactions.
