John Wiley & Sons, Inc., (NYSE:JWa) (NYSE:JWb), is pleased to announce that the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences has awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for 2009 jointly to Professors Venkatraman Ramakrishnan, Thomas A. Steitz, and Ada E. Yonath.

Professor Venkatraman Ramakrishnan, of the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology in Cambridge, United Kingdom; Professor Thomas A. Steitz, of Yale University, New Haven, CT, USA; and Professor Ada E. Yonath, of the Weizmann Institute of Science, Rehovot, Israel, were awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for their studies of the structure and function of the ribosome. Dr. Steitz and Dr. Yonath are published Wiley authors.

Dr. Yonath is a member of the Editorial Advisory Board of the Wiley-VCH journal ChemBioChem, which celebrates its 10th anniversary with a symposium in Paris next May. Dr. Yonath will speak at this symposium along with three fellow Nobel laureates and other high-ranking scientists. ChemBioChem is published on behalf of ChemPubSoc Europe, a consortium of fourteen European chemical societies. In addition to much of her original research, she contributed a review article on the stereochemistry of the ribosome to the journal earlier this year, as well as a review on the function of the ribosome to Wiley's Journal of Peptide Science. Other titles to which Dr. Yonath contributed include Biopolymers, the European Journal of Biochemistry, the Journal of Cellular Biochemistry, the Journal of Physical Organic Chemistry, and Molecular Microbiology. She also wrote the first chapter of the book Life Sciences for the 21st Century (E. Keinan et al., Eds, Wiley-VCH 2004).

Dr. Steitz, along with fellow 2009 laureate Dr. Szostak (Physiology/Medicine), is a co-author of The Harvey Lectures Series.
