EurBest in EurJOC: Synthesis of Phosphonobenzocarbacephems by Intramolecular Radical Cyclization of Haloaryl-Substituted β-Lactams
A series of novel benzo-fused tricyclic β-lactams were prepared by starting from epibromohydrin via phosphonoazadienes. The two key reactions in this route are a Staudinger reaction towards the β-lactams followed by radical ring closing, resulting in the envisaged phosphono-substituted tricyclic compounds.
