The journal physica status solidi (RRL) is a pure online Journal (since 2013).

physica status solidi is devoted to the thorough peer review and the rapid publication of new and important results in all fields of solid state and materials physics, from basic science to applications and devices. Being among the largest and most important international publications, the pss journals publish review articles, letters and original work as well as special issues and conference contributions.

physica status solidi (RRL) - Rapid Research Letters was designed to offer extremely fast publication times and is currently the fastest peer-reviewed publication medium in solid state physics. With submission numbers rising, editorial priority handling maintains the median turnaround time for editorial decisions at 14 days, and at 4 days from acceptance to online publication of the typeset and proof-read Letter. It communicates important findings with a high degree of novelty and need for express publication, as well as other results of immediate interest to the solid state physics and materials science community. Published Letters require approval by at least two independent referees.
The journal covers topics such as preparation, structure and simulation of advanced materials, theoretical and experimental investigations of the atomistic and electronic structure, optical, magnetic, superconducting, ferroelectric and other properties of solids, nanostructures and low-dimensional systems as well as device applications. Rapid Research Letters particularly invites papers from interdisciplinary and emerging new areas of research.

With a new Impact Factor of 2.218, pss (RRL) continues to be the highest impact letter journal dedicated to solid state physics - the publication now includes the newly introduced Reviews@RRL, the special solar cell section, and further Focus issues to come. Total pss (RRL) cites have increased by 20% to 1,103 in 2011, the Immediacy Index rose by 9% to 0.674, proving that RRL articles are not only published rapidly, but also gain citations faster than ever.
