The only comprehensive textbook providing detailed coverage of the whole field -- both for learning as well as serving as a life-long reference -- combines the contents of general and introductory courses, instrumental analysis and advanced analytical chemistry in one handy volume.
The third edition of the best-selling classic is brought up to date to include the latest developments, with two completely new chapters on the hot topics of analytical nanoscience and nanotechnology, and on green analytical chemistry. In addition, around one third of the chapters are completely rewritten with the author team including nine new authors who are active in teaching and share their expertise on the current state of the art.
Includes questions at the end of each chapter to improve the learning experience.

"This second edition covers analytical chemistry from general principles to state-of-the-art techniques and instrumentation."
Analytical Chemistry

"Well-thought out and impeccably detailed...an easy-to-follow text that will lend itself well to classroom instruction."
Electric Review

"Viewed as a whole, this textbook is a detailed compendium of modern analytical chemistry, which offers a mainly excellent survey of the field."
Angewandte Chemie I.E.

"The text covers both general analytical chemistry and instrumental analysis and may be used for most analytical chemistry courses offered today. ...the book gives a comprehensive overview about the technologies available for the analytical chemist today.
Metall

"If one has only one analytical chemistry book, this would be an excellent choice."
CHOICE

"...I strongly recommend this book to all laboratories which have to be kept well informed about the vast variety of analytical possibilities. I also recommend it to PhD students, whose topic is related to the analytical sciences."
Archiv der Pharmazie

"... a useful tool for teachers and students at all university levels, and for everyone working with analytical methods in industry... This is one of the few large introductions available on analytical chemistry, and it can be recommended as text book or quick reference for everyone, who starts to get involved into this discipline."
ChemPhysChem

"With its broad scope, the text doubles as a reliable reference for virtually all analytical problems encountered during the course of study and beyond."
Metrohm Information

"... a must-have volume for students as well as those experienced practitioners in analytical chemistry."
American Journal of Therapeutics

"... is one of the broadest and most up-to-date text books in the field and can be recommended for students and lecturers. All chapters are clearly written and allow a self-evaluation by answering the questions at the end of the chapters. Owing to the multi-authored approach, it suffers from some overlaps that, on the whole, do not significantly reduce the value of this book."

Matthias Otto is Professor of Analytical Chemistry at the TU Bergakademie Freiberg in Germany. He was born in Dresden (Germany) and did all his studies at the University of Leipzig. In 1984 he moved to Freiberg (Germany) as a reader and was appointed full Professor there in 1987. Since that time he has taught almost all aspects of Analytical Chemistry mainly within the curricula of chemistry, applied sciences and geoecology and organizes courses in basic and advanced chemometrics.

Miguel Valcárcel is Professor of Analytical Chemistry at the University of Córdoba (Spain) since 1976, member of the Spanish Royal Academy of Sciences and past chairman of the Analytical Division of the Federation of European Chemical Societies (DAC-FECS) and Doctor Honoris Causa by the University of Valencia (Spain). He is author or co-author of 800 research papers and ten monographs in the frame of automation, simplification and quality of (bio)chemical measurement processes as well us analytical nanoscience and nanotecnology.
