Advanced Microbiome is a peer-reviewed, open access journal publishing original research and review articles spanning basic, translational, and clinical studies across the full breadth of microbiome science. Advanced Microbiome provides a dedicated home for research on the communities of bacteria, archaea, fungi, viruses, and microbial eukaryotes that inhabit living organisms and natural environments, and their relationships with host biology and ecosystem function.

The journal welcomes research at all scales, from the cell and molecular biology of individual microbiome-resident organisms to community-level ecology, from mechanistic discovery to clinical translation. We are committed to promoting microbiome-based solutions for human, animal, plant and environmental health, in alignment with One Health principles.

The goal of this journal is to provide a knowledge-sharing platform for microbiome researchers and clinicians worldwide.

The main topics covered by this journal are:

  • Host-microbiome interactions across humans, animals, plants, and other host organisms
  • Cell and molecular biology of microbiome-resident organisms
  • Microbial ecology, community dynamics, and ecosystem function
  • Environmental, agricultural, marine, freshwater, and built-environment microbiomes
  • Microbiome-based interventions, therapeutics, and biotechnology
  • Computational biology, multi-omics, and methods in microbiome research
  • One Health microbiome science
